Paddle Wheel Flow Meter, with Pipe Mounted Display (PMD)
The digital LCD display is mounted directly on the pipe. Our most popular series of meters utilizing our 35+ year dependable paddle wheel design. The meter is mounted directly on pipes ranging in size from 1/2” to 8”. The display of the meter rotates for easy viewing on both horizontal and vertical pipes.
Paddle Wheel Flow Meter, with Detached Display (DD)
The digital LCD display is separated from the paddle wheel sensor by 15 feet (longer or shorter lengths by special order). This allows monitoring in locations where the pipe is not easily viewed, such as in underground or overhead pipes. This meter utilizes the same paddle wheel feature for dependable long term service.

Pulse Output Transmitter
The Pulse Output Transmitter is an option for those who wish to utilize their own data collection system instead of reading the flow results on the LCD display of the meter head. The same trusted paddle wheel sensor is used in this product. The Pulse Output Transmitter can be purchased with any size and schedule saddle and pipe combination. PLEASE NOTE: This product is intended for integration into third-party data collection systems. Midwest Instruments & Controls, LLC, does not provide technical support for connection, configuration, or troubleshooting with external systems.
Saddles
Saddles are available in two styles: Bonded and Clamped. Bonded Saddles come adhered to a nominal 13" section of pipe, which is then installed into the existing system. Clamped Saddles are adhered onto the existing pipes with clamps to hold the saddle in place while it is curing to the pipe. Customer then bores a hole into the pipe with a 1 1/2" hole saw using the saddle as a guide. Saddles mount to schedule 40 and schedule 80 pipes ranging in size from 1/2" to 8". The saddle is specific to the pipe size and schedule. For example, a saddle for a 3" schedule 40 pipe will not work on a 3" schedule 80 pipe. Meter heads, whether pipe mounted or detached display, can be field programmed to any specific saddle size. Saddles are added as an option when ordering the meter heads or can be purchased. separately.

Paddle Wheel, Pin & Oring Kit
The paddle wheel, pin, and o-rings are normal wear items. Typically, in clean water, they will deliver many years of service. Silt/grit, chemicals, and high flow rates will shorten the life of these items. The replacement procedure involves pushing the old pin out with a drill bit or similar small diameter rod. Then you install the new paddle by pushing the new pin back into the slot. The o-ring just slips off and on with relative ease. The same paddle wheel kits are used for both the Pipe Mounted Meters and the Detached Display Meters.
Service Plugs
If your meter needs to be removed for service or cleaning the plug can be installed and the flow restored until the meter is reinstalled. The operator simply turns off the water flow, removes the stainless steel pin, pulls out the meter, installs the plug, reinserts the pin, and restores the flow. The standard plug fits any of the saddles sizes and can be used with both the Pipe Mounted Meters and the Detached Display Meters. Plugs can be purchased as an option when ordering meters or purchased separately.

Sunshade
The sunshade option is important when the meter is mounted outdoors in direct sunlight. When the face of the meter is exposed to direct sunlight the LCD display slowly degrades over time becoming unreadable in approximately one year. This is not covered under warranty. The sunshade is only available with the Pipe Mounted Display meter at this time. Select the sunshade as an option when ordering a PMD meter (not a DD meter), as this is factory mounted to the meter and cannot be added in the field to a previously purchased meter.
Data Output Cable
Add a 5’ data output cable (shorter or longer lengths by request) for a customer-supplied data logging system. A data output cable can be added to a Pipe Mounted Display Meter Head or to a Detached Display Meter Head. This allows for collection and categorization of data in a variety of ways in addition to the 3 readings available on a MIC meter head: current flow, resettable totalizer, and a non-resettable totalizer. PLEASE NOTE: This product is intended for integration into third-party data collection systems. Midwest Instruments & Controls, LLC, does not provide technical support for connection, configuration, or troubleshooting with external systems.
Battery Replacement Service
The Pipe Mounted Display Flow Meter is housed in a sealed, waterproof enclosure; therefore battery replacement is performed at the factory. The battery should be replaced when the LCD display begins to fade or as routine maintenance every 3-5 years. If you experience any issues, other than a fading LCD display, please contact us and we'll be happy to assist with troubleshooting. Discounted service rates are available when multiple meters are serviced at the same time.
